This video shows the near-complete 3D structure of recombinant Arabidopsis phytochrome A as a dimer in the Pr state, based on the cryoEM data of Burgie et al. (2023; PDB code 8F5Z) and visualised using PyMol (kindly provided by Schrödinger Inc.). It starts with the view from above the "landing platform", then rotates around two axes to show the mushroom-like platform and the stalk. The domains are coloured as follows: nPAS, wheat; GAF, gold; PHY, red; connecting helix, yellow; PAS2, light orange; HLH, green; CAL, pink. The NTE and PAS1 are missing because of their high mobility. See Hughes & Winkler (2024; doi: 10.1146/annurev-arplant-070623-110636) for details.
